The problem with live-blogging a gig is you can't, not when you're onstage. I stole this photo from Angela of the Doubleclicks, taken when people started getting their groove on.

An Eagles' Nest might not feel like the most rock n' roll venue, but that changes once you pack it with excited Doubleclicks fans.
Also, I would have totally ruled at the nerd trivia portion of the night, had I been playing.

Kirby Krackle is currently killing time at the Oregon Brewers Festival down on the PDX waterfront. Well, most of us anyway, Patrick decided to go jogging instead. Whatever, Pat. More beers for us!

If you're visiting Portland soon, I recommend the Alter Ego IPA at Burnside Brewing Company. Pleasantly hoppy but without that oiled-metal aftertaste. A nice respite after brutal traffic added an additional two hours to our trip. On the upside, PDX is currently in the high 60s. Sorry, sun-scorched rest of the country.
GeekPortland gig is tomorrow!

Oy, I've been letting this blog slip due to summertime laziness. I've been especially squeezed in July, launching a big project at the day job; pulling off a sold-out Kin to Stars one-year anniversary show which I failed to promote or even mention here; camping in downstate WV with family, during which I experienced a terrifying, wrath-of-God-style lightning storm from the "safety" of a thin nylon tent; entertaining friends in town for Independence Day, planning various home repairs, etc. I feel like July has been just as packed as the first six months of 2012. Busy, but it's a good kind of busy.
In a few hours, Kirby Krackle is headed down to Portland to play at the GeekPortland Geek Party, along with nerd-folk sister act the Doubleclicks. It's been months since our last full-band show and even longer since we've left Seattle so I'm looking forward to getting back into it. Other guys play poker or go fishing for the weekend, we haul gear to clubs. Summer gigs are the best.
